SMUDC Welcome Tea 2021

An Introduction to SMUDC & Mindfulness

Ushering in a new academic semester, SMUDC held its Welcome Tea Session on 10th August 2021. We were very excited to meet the new faces for SMUDC who joined us to meet like-minded individuals and to learn about the Dhamma.

MINDFULNESS

During this Welcome Tea, the participants learned about the importance of mindfulness through mindful listening and a game of “DING, DONG, DIANG”. Through the activities, the participants were able to understand how mindfulness can help in their daily lives! After the event, many of them also told us that they want to learn more about mindfulness/meditation!

The mindfulness activities were conducted by our very own Alumni, Pei Shan! Upon graduation, Pei Shan started out Uglyfood in her quest to eliminate food waste. Currently, she is known as a “Kind Food Warrior” leading more people to become agents of change to reduce food waste! (IG: @kindfoodwarrior) Pei Shan has experience in facilitation and is currently taking classes on Buddhism. Pei Shan will also soon be embarking on her journey to take a Diploma in Buddhism with Buddhist & Pali College Singapore at Mangala Vihara. SMUDC expresses our greatest gratitude to Pei Shan for conducting the mindfulness activities.

WHAT DID THE PARTICIPANTS SAY?

"The mindfulness activity gave a lot of room to share without judgement"
"Mindful listening really helped me listen to understand rather than listen to reply"
"It's very nice to have someone listening to you attentively, and it also feels good to listen to someone"
